6b6t map — frequently asked questions

The questions players ask most about the live map and the mod behind it.

Is the map really live?

Yes, with a small delay. Chunks arrive from players all the time and the images are redrawn every five minutes. So the map you are looking at is at most a few minutes old, plus a few minutes of browser cache. There is no manual step: nobody approves or edits what appears.

Why are parts of the map black?

Black is not water or void — it means no contributor has loaded those chunks yet. The map is drawn from the areas players actually walk through with the mod installed. Empty regions simply have not been visited. Walking there yourself is the fastest way to fill them in.

Does the map show players, or my base?

No. There are no player markers: the map draws terrain, not people, so it cannot be used to track anyone. The mod only records the top surface block of each chunk, so underground bases, interiors and anything with a roof over it never show up. It does not send your coordinates, your inventory or your chat.

How do I get my area onto the map?

Install the Fabric mod, join 6b6t and walk around. Every chunk you load is sent automatically and shows up after the next render, within a few minutes. The mod is free, open source and works in the background.

How far does the map go?

It covers 65,536 × 65,536 blocks centred on spawn — from −32,768 to +32,767 on both axes. That is a 128 × 128 grid of sections of 512 blocks each. Anything beyond that cannot be displayed, even if someone explores it.

Can I have my chunks removed?

Yes. Ask on the Colonizadores Discord and they can be deleted from the database. You can also stop contributing at any moment with /webmap in-game, which toggles the mod off without uninstalling it.

Is the mod safe? Will it get me banned?

The mod is open source, so anyone can read exactly what it sends. It does not give you any in-game advantage: it reads chunks your client has already loaded and sends them to this map. It does not modify the game, automate anything or interact with the server beyond normal play.

Which Minecraft versions does it support?

There are builds for 1.19.x, 1.20.x and 1.21.x, all for Minecraft Java Edition with Fabric. The contribute page links to each build, and the full list lives on GitHub.

Why does my area look outdated?

A chunk shows the state it was in when someone last loaded it. If a base was griefed after that, the map keeps the old picture until a contributor walks past again. Areas near spawn change fastest because that is where most players go.

Can I use the map images elsewhere?

Yes, as long as you credit map.carlox.es and link back. The whole map is also available as a single image at /full, and there is a small preview of the central area at /mapimage for embeds and thumbnails.

Who is behind the map?

It is a fan project by Carlox and the Colonizadores community, not affiliated with 6b6t or Mojang. The about page explains how it is built, and the stats page shows the live numbers.
